Teen Dating - A Guide For Parents

Dating nowadays is very popular not just for adults but for teens as well. Teen dating is getting more popular these days that it is considered as an important part in one’s teenage life.
Teenagers date for different kinds of reasons mostly, teenagers date for social purposes. This will make them build up their confidence and learn techniques on dating. By going out on a date this will also test if they are compatible with each other that can lead to a more than being friends. When you’re a teenager there are times when you’re confused and not that sure whether what your doing is right that’s why you need some advice.
Parents should understand that it is normal for teens to date. Most of the time the girls are the ones who are more vocal in talking about these topics while the boys are the silent type. If you allow your teens to date make sure you make some ground rules for them to follow.
You should always bear in mind that your teenagers need some privacy. You may sometimes feel that your not involve with your teens life, that is normal you just have to give it time and maybe they’ll open up and ask some question about dating. If they do, always be there to answer their questions.
Teens still need your guidance, more so in their teenage years. When you have talks with you children give some examples of the things they can encounter when they’re on a date. Always assure them that you will be always there when thy need your help.
When you teenager introduces his/her date, make sure that you will be courteous enough to entertain him/her. Never run down the rules when you child’s date has been introduced. You may do this before the date arrives. It is okay to ask questions from your child’s date but don’t go over board in asking too much. This can make them feel awkward and more nervous as they are right before he/she has been introduced to you.
Teen Dating will be both fun and safe for your child if you just know the pro’s and con’s of dating. These are some guidelines for you to remember when your teen goes on a date.
- Let her go on a date with someone you know for quite some time.
- Before you teen goes through a date make sure you know where they’re going so that when anything goes wrong, you’ll know where to look for them.
- It is better for them to go on a group date. It will be more safe that way.
- Tell your teen what are the things that can happen on a date, may it be good or bad.
Unfortunately, violence in teen dating is a reality. Violence in teen dating is defined by the United States Department of Justice as: “the perpetration or threat of an act of violence by at least one member of an unmarried couple on the other member within the context of dating or courtship”. In dating violence, the other person rules over the other through some kind of abuse, either physically or emotionally or both. Teenagers who enter the dating scene face this risk. Nonetheless, it should be remembered that teen dating violence can be prevented if you just follow some of the guidelines above.
